An eBay user is selling a unique prototype vehicle called the Ford Ghia Trio. Built with the assistance from coachbuilder Ghia 39 years ago for the Geneva Motor Show, the ultra-compact urban ride is now on sale for an eye-watering 500,000 USD. It doesn’t even have an engine!
By introducing this car, Ford wanted to showcase its vision of the city transports of the future. The word ‘Trio’ in the name refers to the seat arrangement with the driver’s seat in the middle and two passenger seats in the back.
The hatchback comes based on a tubular frame, wearing aluminum, glass-fiber plastic and Kevlar panels on top of it. As a result, it weighs a record-low 340 kilograms (750 pounds). The engine was meant to be mounted on the rear axle and consume no more than three liters of gas per 100 kilometers (80+ MPG). The displacement volume was 250cc, or one-fourth of a liter.
The seller claims they legally own the vehicle, but refuses to explain how it was acquired. The listing also mentions that restoration experts evaluate engine installation at $4,000–$6,000 – a pittance compared to the main asking price.
