Ford reveals a prototype car window sightseeing tech for the blind

Ford Motors has issued a press release stating it was working on a prototype ‘smart glass’ tech that might enable visually impaired people to enjoy the scenery unfolding beyond the car window.

The so-called Feel The View tech takes photographs of the surrounding area, turns them into high-contrast, black-and-white images and projects these onto the car windows. Whenever someone touches the glass, he or she would feel a certain vibration corresponding to one of the 225 available color shades. In addition to the above, the system will attempt to describe the nature outside using a synthesized voice and image recognition.

Ford teamed up with Aedo for the project, an Italian company that specializes in device development for the visually impaired.

This isn’t the only bit of innovation Ford is currently in pursuit of. For instance, the company also works on a uniform light-based ID system for easy identification of airborne drones and UAVs.
