Ford Bronco & Bronco Sport won’t be available in Europe

Did all the latest advertising that Ford unleashed to make sure the world recognizes and wants its revived Bronco and Bronco Sport models inspire you to buy one? Well, you’re lucky if you live in North America; the SUVs won’t go on sale in Europe anytime soon.

The automaker does not explain its decision, only stating that the new Bronco lineup was designed specifically for the U.S. and Canada, and making it global has never been a priority. In all likelihood, the real reason is in the strict environmental laws entering into force in Europe next year.

Having said that, Ford will be launching a V6-powered Bronco hybrid in 2021, which will enable it to reduce its carbon footprint across the entire product range. No such plans were announced for the Bronco Sport, but it might land with the plug-in hybrid powertrain of its technical sibling, the Kuga/Escape.

Given that Ford has accepted over 165,000 pre-orders for the Bronco and Bronco Sport on the domestic market so far, making the off-roader series available in Europe would give the Euro-spec Land Rover Defender and Jeep Wrangler a run for their money.
