Ford had intended to offer its new Bronco SUV with Jeep Wrangler-style detachable windshield – but the option was ditched after some consideration and testing.
Bronco owners can still take off the doors and the roof if they want to, but the windshield will stay there. According to the company, the chief engineer of the project made this decision over safety concerns.
Specifically, making the front glass pane non-fixed would have necessitated a number of tradeoffs in other areas, including the need to build airbags into side pillars.
