Ford’s newest take on the Bronco envisions it as a dedicated desert runner certified for compliance with the Baja 1000’s Ultra4 category. The race remains scheduled for late 2021.
The so-called Bronco 4600 uses the production chassis and two-door body design, plus the optional Sasquatch package. The standard 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 and ten-speed automatic transmission also stay in place. Upgrades include a suspension kit containing Fox shocks and various reinforcements, Wilwood brakes, and beadlocked Method wheels wrapped in 35-inch BFGoodrich mud-terrain T/A KM3 tires.
The bottom part of the car in particular received plenty of durability upgrades (portal axle hub, Howe steering pinion, Triton control rods, and so on). Ford Performance supplied stainless-steel bumpers and a winch.
Ford says it will begin testing the Bronco 4600 in the field in late February.
