Reports suggest that a Ford Bronco pickup is not to be

Citing insiders in the Ford supply chain, Automotive News claims the company considered making a pickup truck version of the resurrected Bronco SUV, but thought it would cannibalize sales.

The original estimates showed that Ford could launch a Bronco truck in around three years’ time for it to compete with the Jeep Gladiator. However, in a statement recently made by Mike Levine, one of the execs of the company, he said the management was quite satisfied as is with the popularity of the current off-roader lineup, including the pickups. Launching a Bronco truck would possibly eat away at the sales of the mid-size Ranger, for example.

Interestingly, while the big Bronco may forever remain an SUV, its baby counterpart named the Bronco Sport has already received a cargo bed under the ‘Maverick’ badge. The compact-sized Ford Maverick debuted in June and can be pre-ordered starting from U.S. $19,995. The company has recently reported exceeding 100,000 orders.
