Ford Bronco might make it to Europe, after all

Apparently, Ford Motor Company is seriously considering launching its new Bronco SUV in Europe. CEO Jim Farly believes it would be no less popular among buyers than its rival, the Land Rover Defender.

According to Farly, the top management of the company is waiting for Ford Europe to reach a decision on this matter. In the United States, the car has been swept off the assembly lines via pre-orders, some trims backordered until 2022.

Having said that, Autoevolution doubts that the new Bronco will be as good of a sell in the Old World. It gives the Jeep Wrangler as an example, another body-on-frame SUV available in three- and five-door variants, which only found 7,262 buyers in Europe last year. In the United States, a similar number of Wranglers is sold every month.

Further complicating matters are the new environment protection standards coming into legal force in mid-2020s, which could permanently force the Bronco out of the European market. Perhaps the PHEV and all-electric versions of the off-roader – both already in development – will be able to stay there. In other words, if Ford decides to bring the model to the Old World, it will probably do so with a considerable degree of electrification.
