Ford Bronco Raptor bows with off-road upgrades

After frequent pre-production sightings, the new Bronco Raptor has finally debuted on official terms. According to Ford, it draws inspiration from the Ultra4 Racing series and is built to navigate deserts and rocky terrains.

Getting straight to the point, the SUV uses an EcoBoost inline-six engine rated at around 400 horsepower (300 kilowatts). The precise rating is not yet available, but it looks like the same engine powers the latest Explorer ST. A 10-speed automatic transmission drives all four wheels through a transfer case.

Other improvements over the stock Bronco include Dana axles borrowed from the Bronco DR racer, tweaked suspension and a more rigid body. The ground clearance amounts to 330 mm (12.9 inches) and the wheel span to 1,870 mm (73 inches). Suspension travel at the front/rear is 330/355 mm (12.9”/13.9”).

The Bronco Raptor rides on new 17-inch wheels wrapped in 37-inch off-road tires. It has auxiliary headlights on the front grille along with the word ‘Raptor’ in large letters. The interior sports red accents and unique Ford Performance front seats.

The first deliveries will be made in summer.
