The Ford Bronco can drive over all kinds of wilderness, but sailing oceans isn’t its forte. An owner of this four-door example had to learn the truth the hard way after getting stuck in sand in Maine, USA.
The incident happened this weekend. The driver ignored all warning signs all drove onto the coast only to get completely immobilized in a sand trap. The tide came in, and the car submerged in water up to its roof. A rescue team that arrived at the scene had attempted to tow the SUV away, but ended up breaking a 3-inch thick towing cable. The team later returned with two tow trucks that were able to move the car a further 100 feet (30 meters) inland – but only as far as that.
According to Mount Desert Islander, a local publication, a diver mounted buoyancy devices all around the Bronco body to dislodge it from the slimy mud trapping it at the bottom. The plan was to let the Bronco float and push it to the shore until a tow truck is within range.
