Simon Cowell restores a 1977 Ford Bronco to top condition

Ford announced the forthcoming resurrection of the Bronco pickup truck series in November last year. Regrettably, the new ‘Bronco R Baja Racer’ series will have little in common with its ancestry, apart from the name and some of the styling. This only leaves one option for the diehard fans: restoration!

Car collector and restorer Simon Cowell just finished one such project a couple days ago. He started with a truck produced in 1977, taking it apart completely, removing the rust and the worn-out parts, oiling the mechanisms, and putting everything back together. He then painted the body with three layers of glossy black paint.

As a restomod, the car sports quite a number of improvements over its original state, including a James Duff suspension lift, XD Series wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A tires, and high-end Wilwood brakes on both axles.

Powering the build is a Ford Racing 302ci eight-banger, and a four-speed automatic transmission is used to send up to 340 hp (254 kW) to all four wheels. The carburetor, air intake system, intercooler, and the entire exhaust system are new.

For its own part, the cab boasts an expensive leather trim and houses a Pioneer multimedia system.

Now that’s how you build a Bronco, isn’t it?
