There’s an elderly Ford Cougar under all the Ferrari 458 mascara

A Ferrari 458 replica based on the FWD Ford Cougar is looking for a new owner in the UK. Its owner claims there are only eight cars like this in existence, and this one was the last one built. The amount asked for is £34,950 (around $45,800 USD).

The conversion took place ten years ago, required 1,000 workhours to complete, and cost a whopping £50,000 due to a number of OEM Ferrari components used. These included black leather bucket seats and the engine start button, among others.

Unlike the Ferrari it impersonates, this 2000 Ford Cougar clings to its front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. The engine bay is occupied by a 2.5-liter V6 normally rated at 170 PS (168 hp / 125 kW) or close to it. The seller claims this example has an upgraded engine and drivetrain, as well as a custom exhaust system, but doesn’t say whether it affects the power output. There is also a fake Ferrari engine in the back.

The car has 92,500 km (around 57,500 miles) on the odometer to show for post-restoration use. Its owner had originally rented it out to wedding parties, and the buyer will be getting a few unfulfilled rental orders with their purchase.
