Ford Escape goes into next generation in China

Ford has announced the forthcoming production start of the 2020 Ford Escape in China. The car will debut at the Guangzhou Motor Show on November 22 and enter production at the Changan Ford factory in Chongqing. The older generation will remain available for a while.

Compared to the Europe-sold Kuga and the U.S. Escape (shown in the video here), the Chinese SUV sports a different front fascia design, including a new bumper and an octagonal radiator grille. The center console has been redesigned in the same vein as that of the Mk4 Focus, the dashboard is now digital, the multimedia screen measures 8 inches across, and automatic gear switching now occurs with the help of a new selector knob.

The China-only Ford Escape will ship with turbocharged EcoBoost engines 1.5 and 2.0 liters large. The former comes rated at 174 hp (130 kW) and the latter at 248 hp (185 kW). Advanced options include the AI-powered SYNC+ multi-function electronic system developed by Baidu.
