Ford is seriously considering releasing a performance-laden version of its Escape/Kuga SUV, but will it really bring it to the market?
The model comes based on the same technological platform as the Focus, which has an ST version. However, the manufacturer’s U.S. lineup lacks a Focus ST or a Fiesta ST, for that matter: Americans tend to prefer SUVs to light passenger cars. If the Escape ST receives the green light, it will most likely borrow the powertrain from the abovementioned hot hatch.
Other than that, Ford already has the Edge ST and the Explorer ST on its lineup. The former packs a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 rated at 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW), while the latter shares the 3.0-liter bi-turbo V6 good for 406 PS (400 hp / 300 kW) with the now-discontinued Lincoln Continental sedan.
