An 18-year-old Ford Excursion with 26,000 km (16,000 miles) under its belt may not be the most appealing SUV to buy for $100,000 these days, but someone did just that on an online auction this weekend.
To put things into perspective, you could have a new BMW X6 M for $109,000 instead. This is not to say the Excursion is bad: it is apparently in excellent condition with only one owner, who registered it in Georgia but mostly drove it in California.
Adding to the value is the Platinum trim level with 16-inch chrome wheels, tinted glass all around, rear parking sensors, roof rails, heated front seats, HVAC, three seat rows and a second-row multimedia system with DVD playback support. The whole interior is wrapped in light brown leather and appears nearly pristine.
A 7.3-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel under the hood produces 250 PS (246 hp / 183 kW) and benefits from a freshly replaced battery. The Excursion also used to be available with a 6.0-liter diesel from the same lineup and Triton gasoline engines: a 5.4-liter V8 and a 6.8-liter V10.
Ford assembled the Excursion in 1999 through 2005, marketing it as a rival to the Chevrolet Suburban. North America was the main destination market, but some units ended up exported to other countries, such as the UAE.
