$50k worth of tuning adds 0 HP to your Expedition, says Hennessey

Texas-based Hennessey Performance has been producing impressive – and impressively expensive – high-performance vehicles under its Velociraptor sub-brand. The Ford Expedition seen here is the latest addition to the list, but it apparently lacks the one thing these builds are renowned for.

Starting with a Tremor-spec SUV, the company raises its ground clearance by 2 inches (51 mm) to put custom 20-inch wheels into the arches alongside heavy-duty all-terrain tires. It also installs upgraded Brembo brakes at the front end and adds a stainless-steel skid plate. Power-assisted running boards, a reshaped front bumper and auxiliary LED lighting for poor visibility conditions further transform the Expedition into a serious-looking overlanding machine.

It’s all the more puzzling, then, that the stock 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 continues its duty undisturbed, producing its stock 446 PS (440 hp / 328 kW) and 691 Nm (510 lb-ft). Hennessey does mention a new carbon-fiber air intake, but that seems to be it.

Orders for the custom SUV start at a cool $129,950, nearly $50,000 above the standard Ford Expedition Tremor. Would you ever consider a costly overhaul like this if it left out the powertrain? Let us know in the comments.
