Ford Motor Company will be releasing a battery modification of its Explorer SUV (see the gallery and the video) based on a brand-new EV platform.
The mid-size crossover is highly popular in the United States, so the decision to electrify it among the first is not even remotely surprising. The company aims to raise its EV sales to 40% in its total sales by early 2030s. To achieve this goal, it will be designing an original architecture to be used by all kinds of battery vehicles.
In other news, Ford also announced a new traction battery tech called IonBoost, which it intends to develop together with the budding tech company Solid Power. The technology used should drop battery production costs by as much as 40% by 2025.
Last but not least, Ford signed the agreements with South Korea-based company SK Innovation to build two power cell factories in the United States. According to Ford CEO Jim Farly, these steps will enable the automotive giant to ‘lead the electric revolution’.
