The world’s tallest climbing tower, named OVER, opened for alpinism enthusiasts in Norway in June 2021, and Ford saw it as a chance to hold a competition.
The automaker out a Ford Explorer on top of the tower and arranged a competition between professional climbers. An elimination round was held at first to filter out unworthy candidates, leaving just six people competing in the final stage.
The climbing route for the challenge was established with the assistance from Martin Mobråten. The goal was to reach the summit as fast as possible.
In the end, Leo Ketil Bøe climber on top of the OVER in just 3 minutes 33 seconds, claiming a free 2-year subscription for the Ford Explorer Hybrid and a scale model of the tower as prizes. The remaining participants and the audience went home with branded T-shirts.
The part-electric Ford Explorer has 450 PS (444 hp / 331 kW) in its European spec.
