The American car manufacturer Ford has used the Beijing Automotive Exhibition 2018 as the opportunity to dispel some of the mystery surrounding its next Explorer SUV. All we have got this time around was a single teaser pic and some engine information. Ford schedules the big reveal for the Detroit Motor Show in January 2019.
The sixth-generation Ford Explorer SUV will ship with three engines to choose from. There is an EcoBoost gasoline turbo with 2.3 liters of displacement room, a 3.3-liter naturally-aspirated engine and a hi-end, twin-turbo V6 with 400 hp (300 kW) at its disposal. The latter will only be made available with the sports-oriented Ford Explorer ST, though. Regardless of your choice, all models get a 10-speed automatic transmission.
There is talk behind the scenes that the upcoming Ford Explorer may be based on the rear-driven CD6 platform – the same as the one used by the new Lincoln.
Prices will be above U.S. $30,000.
