There Ain’t No Pickup: Ford deceives everyone with emoji-related teaser vid

Don’t you just hate teasers sometimes? More often than not, they give you zero-point-zero useful data while flaring up all sorts of rumors and speculation. Remember the Ford pickup truck vid from yesterday? There ain’t no pickup.

Just yesterday, automotive media throughout the world started publishing what they assumed to be ‘a strange Ford video teaser’ featuring a small drawing of a pickup truck. Many assumed this was the U.S. manufacturer’s way of announcing a mini truck that would be marketed as a cheaper alternative to the Ranger and the F-150.

Mike Levin, one of the senior managers at Ford North America, happily contributed to the confusion by tweeting that we just need to wait – and be pleasantly surprised. Mr. Levin even added, that the only reason we still haven’t seen any spy shots of the alleged truck was because car spotters “couldn’t get close to the prototype”. OK, so now we know that was blatant lies.

As you have probably figured out by now, the teaser was dedicated to the truck emoji that the company has designed for the International Emoji Day (which is a thing, apparently). Ford claims it was the customers who urged the company to do this.

Oh, and don’t bother looking for the Ford’s new emoji in your smartphone. It has just been added to a short list of images Unicode Consortium will be adding to the emoji collection in 2020. Furthermore, it will need an official approval first.

Do you think they will approve it? Do you mind if they don’t? Do you even care?
