Ford F-150 gets smartphone screen glass for windshield

We all used to associate the name Corning with the ultra-durable Gorilla Glass that company produced for smartphones. However, things just took an interesting turn today with the introduction of the same kind of glass as a paid option for the Ford F-150.

The pickup truck counts among the most popular in the United States and is prevalently used in bad road conditions. As a result, many trucks ride around with assorted dents and cracks in their windshields.

Corning suggests a solution to this problem. Its signature Gorilla Glass is vulcanized at extremely high temperatures (+1000°С / +1,832°F) and then treated with multiple chemical substances for extra durability. Ford claims a Corning-made windshield is 80% more durable than the one made of regular glass. It even comes with a 24-month warranty.

The option costs $950 in the USA, which is twice as expensive as the standard windshield for the model.
