Ford F-Series Super Duty gets insane new diesel V8 with 1050 pound-feet of torque

In August this year, the Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup truck gained a new 7.3-liter gasoline V8 with 436 hp (325 kW) and 644 Nm (475 lb-ft) of torque. Today, its diesel counterpart received a major upgrade.

The 6.7-liter diesel mill had previously sent 456 hp (340 kW) along with a whopping 1,268 Nm (935 lb-ft) to the wheels. Its new version packs 481.5 hp (359 kW) and 1,424 Nm (1,050 lb-ft), which breaks through the psychological threshold of 1,000 pound-feet.

The update makes the Super Duty the strongest diesel-powered truck on the market. To compare, the Chevrolet Silverado HD packs 6.6 liters of displacement, 451 hp (336 kW) and 1,234 Nm (910 lb-ft). In turn, the Ram Heavy Duty boasts a 6.7-liter unit with 406 hp (303 kW) and 1,356 Nm (1,000 lb-ft).

Ford claims the truck sets multiple new records in its weight category. For one, it can now haul trailer attachments weighing up to 37,000 lbs (16,783 kilograms), whereas the gasoline V8 version supports truck bed loads of up to 7,850 lbs (3,561 kg).

Sales launch is expected just before the end of 2019.
