Video: Diesel-powered VW Amarok & X-Class go up against gas-chugging Ford F-150

Watch this latest YouTube video of a drag race among four AWD pickup trucks: two diesel Germans challenging a gas-powered American and its smaller cousin.

One of the contenders is a first-gen Ford F-150 Raptor, which weighs more than 2,700 kilograms. It is therefore 300 kg (660 lbs) heavier than the X-Class and 600 kg (1,320 lbs) than the Amarok. Powering the car is a 6.2-liter, non-turbo V8 good for 416 hp (310 kW) and 588 Nm (435 lb-ft). The transmission type is six-speed automatic.

Mercedes' diesel truck packs a turbo-six mill with three liters of displacement and 258 hp (192 kW) at the crank. A seven-speed auto transmission is used to deliver up to 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque to all four wheels.

The VW Amarok packs a 3.0L turbo-six engine with the same 258 hp (192 kW), but 580 Nm (428 lb-ft) of torque. The gear is eight-speed auto, and there is an aerodynamic plastic hull covering the pickup's body.

The fourth and final entry is a Ranger Raptor pickup with an EcoPlus bi-turbo diesel under the hood. It produces 213 hp (132 kW) alongside 500 Nm (370 lb-ft) of torque, feeding it to the wheels by means of a 10-speed automatic transmission.
