New 2021 Ford F-150 gets minor improvements across the board

With nearly 900,000 units sold in 2019 alone, the Ford F-150 is the single most popular car in the United States. No wonder the marque seems reluctant to change much in its 14th generation.

The exterior proportions and styling cues stay virtually the same, however, the entire bodywork is technically new and incompatible with the previous generation.

Customers are given a choice of six trim levels, and customization opportunities are vast. There are dual-tone paintjobs, an enormous selection of wheel designs, and 11 varieties of the front grille alone. The cab can be single, double and Crew-sized.

Higher specs now include a digital dashboard, a 12-inch infotainment system (Sync 4) and a gear selector located on the center tunnel. Conservatively minded people are invited to opt for the more affordable specs with their analog dash instruments, small central display, and gear lever located on the steering column. The broad center tunnel can also accommodate a third seat if necessary.

The engine palette still includes the familiar gasoline non-turbos V6 3.3 and V8 5.0, EcoBoost 2.7 and 3.5 turbos, and a diesel-chugging V6 3.0 TT. The only new powertrain is called PowerBoost, and it is a hybrid system based on a 3.5-liter EcoBoost mill and a 47-hp (35kW) electric motor. This version comes powered by a tiny 1.5-kWh battery not suitable for purely electric driving, but it does have great fuel efficiency. A full tank of gas will take you as far as 1,120 kilometers (696 miles). Maximum towing capacity amounts to 11,900 lbs (5.4 metric tons).

All cars comes equipped with the same ten-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, while AWD is a paid option. The safety package called Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 and the Active Drive Assist autopilot system have both received major updates.

Prices remain pending, with rumors claiming that the entry-level spec will cost $30,000. Sales start this fall.
