The fourteenth generation of the Ford F-150 pickup truck is slated to hit the showrooms in the coming fall, followed by the power-heavy Raptor version a bit later on – perhaps early next year. But what kind of powertrain would it boast? There are two main versions.
One holds that the Raptor may wind up with the supercharged 5.2-liter V8 of the Mustang Shelby GT500, rated between 725 and 750 hp (540 – 560 kW) on the muscle car. This would make it a worthy rival of the recently premiered Ram 1500 TRX, whose supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 pumps out 702 hp (524 kW) to the TorqueFlite 8HP95 eight-speed auto. The TRX also starts from U.S. $69,995, so we would expect the new Raptor to cost about the same.
Another theory claims the Blue Oval truck may go hybrid and end up with something like the Power Boost system of the Lincoln Aviator. The system revolves around a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine fitted with dual turbochargers and also includes a 47hp (35kW) electric motor and a 1.5-kWh battery.
The current Ford F-150 Raptor packs a 3.5-liter V6 producing 456 hp (340 kW), which it delivers to the wheels through a ten-speed auto. Prices in the United States start at $53,455.
