Ford updates F-150 Police Responder truck line

The new Responder is going to be produced in Kansas City, Missouri, and the first deliveries are expected in fall.

The facelift brings along added engine power and equipment. Among other things, there is a detachable front console that can hold various kinds of equipment. Strobe lights and siren now continue even if you take out the ignition key, and emergency braking assist can be disabled for chases.

The equipment list also includes a trailer assist system, comfortable seats shielded from back attack attempts, a radio station, and a SYNC 4 infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen display and OTA updates.

The old police truck came powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 rated at 380 PS (375 hp / 279 kW) and 637 Nm (470 lb-ft) of torque. The new one keeps the engine, but improves output to 405 PS (400 hp / 298 kW) and 678 Nm (500 lb-ft), which enables it to accelerate to 197 km/h (122 miles per hour) instead of just 160 km/h (100 mph).

Ford is no novice in police car production, having converted such models as the Expedition, Explorer, Fusion, Taurus, and Transit for use by law enforcement services.
