The Ford F-150 Raptor had been maintaining leadership in its market segment as a reliable off-road truck for the past decade, but then Ram came out with its 702-HP TRX monster last year. The time has come for Ford to retaliate – and this test vehicle looks like it.
The latest spy video lets you hear the soundtrack of the new F-150 engine, and it certainly sounds rather impressive. While we can’t confirm or deny it at this time, rumors claim the ultimate Raptor R spec is coming to the market with the Mustang’s 5.2-liter supercharged V8 under the hood. The original engine can produce up to 760 HP, but it would make sense for the pickup to get a slightly milder variant of it rated between 725 and 750 horsepower.
Elsewhere, the upcoming R version seems to have its own radiator grille design, powerful rear suspension arms and unique wheels. Special touches are expected in the cabin, too.
The next-gen Ford F-150 will hit the showrooms this summer, and the R spec will likely have to wait until 2022.
