The U.S. car manufacturer is working on a battery version of its F-150 pickup truck, which will go on sale under the ‘Lightning’ badge last used in the 1990s.
The first Ford F-150 Lightning emerged back in 1993 packing a 5.8-liter V8 rated at 240 PS (237 hp / 176 kW). The second generation came out six years later and brought along a 5.4-liter V8 with 360 PS (355 hp / 265 kW). Another few years after that, the performance went up another 20 horsepower, netting the Lightning a Guinness Book mention as the world’s fastest pickup truck.
Now, the company will be reviving that name for the strongest F-150 on the lineup, which should arrive on the market in a year or so. Specifics and pricing remain unknown, but Ford claims that the customers’ vivid interest in the truck may prompt an expansion of production volume.
