As of recently, multiple car manufacturers have tried to impede engine tuning efforts by encoding the ECUs and otherwise complicating powertrain access for third parties. The 2021 Ford F-150 had been considered one such problematic truck – until Lethal Performance found a workaround.
In its stock guise, the 5.0-liter V8 the popular pickup comes with produces 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW) and up to 555 Nm (410 lb-ft) of torque at the crank. In reality, however, only around 337 PS (332 hp / 248 kW) and 509 Nm (375 lb-ft) of torque reaches the wheels.
Lethal Performance puts a massive three-liter Whipple supercharger under the hood and persuades the on-board electronics to recognize it for it is, resulting in a drastic increase in power and torque.
At the dyno, the pickup now pumps out all of 610 PS (602 hp / 450 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels. It also did a couple of quarter-mile runs a few days ago and set a record among 2021 F-150 models by completing it in 11.87 seconds.
