The first pre-production examples of the all-electric F-150 Lightning pickup have begun rolling off the assembly lines, but the actual production might take a while considering the sheer quantity of pre-orders.
According to Ford, it simply cannot catch up with the demand for the battery-powered F-150. On May 20, the announcement day, it received 20,000 pre-orders within 12 hours. The number then proceeded to grow to 70,000 in a week, hit 130,000 by September 2, and finally hit 150,000 on September 16.
The company will have to double its production capacity from 40,000 to 80,000 units in order to deliver on all the orders, which is a process that could be realistically completed by 2024. It looks like those who still haven’t ordered their F-150 Lightning will have to wait a few years for the delivery.
