The new Ford F-150 Lightning Switchgear is an overlanding beast sporting numerous body and chassis improvement over stock. Created by the company to advertise the superior capabilities of EVs, it is a one-off demo truck and will not go on sale.
Compared to the standard Lightning model, the Switchgear boasts a composite body kit, widened wheel arches and heavy-duty bumpers optimized for steep approach and departure angles. The bed has a spare wheel holder installed, and skid plates screen the undercarriage from damage.
The interior has also taken on a sportier look with five Recaro seats, a reinforcing brace, and a drift-style parking brake.
Elsewhere, the unique pickup has Fox shock absorbers with remote reservoirs, and rides on18-inch wheels with 37-inch Nitto Ridge Grappler tires. It benefits from a track widened to 2,032 mm (79.4 inches) and has 343 mm (13.4 inches) of ground clearance. The stated suspension travel is 330 mm (12.9 inches).
No info is available on the powertrain. The stock F-150 Lightning packs two electric motors pushing up to 588 PS (580 hp / 432 kW) and 1,050 Nm (774 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels. The standard sprint time is around four seconds.
Along with the Switchgear, the company has announced an asphalt-focused version of the pickup with a lower ride height, a low-drag body kit and 20-inch wheels shod in highway rubber.
