Ford prepares a badass e-truck for Pikes Peak

Ford has shared a teaser video dedicated to yet another extreme racer. Following in the tracks of the Supervan, it is called the SuperTruck and packs an insanely powerful electric drive system, as well as an extensive body kit for hill climb racing.

The truck is being built on the same chassis as the F-150 Lightning, or so Ford says. It looks drastically different from the production version with its massive fender vents and enormous rear wing. Other than that, the first teaser doesn’t provide much information.

Like the Supervan before it, the SuperTruck will participate in the annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The 102nd Race to the Clouds will be taking place on June 23 this year. Ford should reveal the remaining specs before that date.

The company points out that experimenting with extreme racing prototypes provides its engineering department with a unique opportunity to test the wildest design solutions, some of which eventually trickle down to the mass market and become the norm. This largely explains why Ford insists on using the electric F-150 chassis for the project. If the race goes well, the automaker will be able to launch a special edition inspired by it.
