Check out an all-electric NASCAR prototype racer

The team behind NASCAR has revealed an all-electric supercar for circuit racing. It is built on a normal racecar chassis, but benefits from a custom body and a particularly potent powertrain. The executives have already assured the media that they had no intention of electrifying the entire racing series.

Co-designed between Chevrolet, Ford, Toyota and powertrain specialist ABB, the car is technically a crossover utility vehicle featuring body panels partially made from plant matter. Its powertrain comprises a trio of electric motors of the same model as those used by the Pikes Peak-winning Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck. The system connects to a 78-kWh battery pack and slams the wheels with a combined 1,360 PS (1,341 hp / 1,000 kW).
