New aerial photos suggest Ford keeps amassing unfinished trucks due to shortages

According to these photos published by The Drive, Ford is still facing serious microchip supply shortages and has to keep some of its Super Duty trucks parked out in the open near the Kentucky Speedway course, visible even from satellites.

The giant parking area is located within an hour’s drive from the Super Duty assembly plant. The publication reports that ford employees drive the trucks to the spot themselves. The models still affected by the shortage include the F-350, F450 and F-550.

For its own part, Ford openly admits having semiconductor issues and says these unfinished vehicles will have to wait until the supply lines are running as they should again. As soon as it happens, the trucks will be finished and delivered. Understandably, the company avoids mentioning any specific parts.

According to The Drive, this has been the case for a while now. Last spring, satellite imagery showed a few thousand cars parked at the same location. The current number is around one-third of that, so the outlook is positive. Still, unless the supply problem goes away completely, the situation could drag on for months with new cars sent to the parking lot just as older ones get removed from it.
