Outflexed: Mighty Ram TRX loses a race to a Ford Flex

Neither beautiful, nor cheap or even reliable, few drivers would call the Ford Flex their favorite ride. There is a reason Ford discontinued the model two years ago after just one generation, after all. But here is a video that proves that you can have lots of fun with just about any car.

When David Dekard bought this 2010 Flex, it produced around 288 PS (284 hp / 212 kW) and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque at the wheels. He then set about modifying the air intake, the exhaust, the turbochargers and the ECU, as well as installing a methanol injection system. In the end, the CUV was able to hit all four wheels with 403 PS (397 hp / 296 kW) and 610 Nm (450 lb-ft).

This sounds cool until you consider that the rival here is a Ram 1500 TRX, a high-performance pickup with dyno measurements reaching as high as 568 PS (560 hp / 418 kW) and 705 Nm (520 lb-ft). The only real downside the truck has is its curb weight, which is roughly 680 kg (1,500 lbs) above that of the Flex.

In the drag race that followed, Dekard managed to get off the starting line faster than his opponent and proceeded to maintain that advantage until the end.
