Ford Focus RS Mk2 gets pushed to 3 times the original power

When we saw a Ford Focus ST boosted to ludicrous 640 hp (477 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb×ft) of torque in early 2019, we thought the build was just about as crazy as they ever got. Well, color us impressed! This second-gen Focus RS, which apparently belongs to car aficionado Glen Nutton, has been tuned to deliver 900 hp, or three times its original amount of power.

The hot hatch leaves the assembly line armed with a 2.5-liter turbo-five engine good for 305 hp (227 kW) and 440 Nm (325 lb×ft) of torque, making it more than adequately powered in its class.

Of course, dialing that five-cylinder unit to 900 hp (671 kilowatts) necessitated making numerous major modifications throughout the entire drivetrain. Highlights include Revo Knuckles suspension struts on the front axle, the Quaife Automatic Torque Biasingmechanical diff lock, and the Syvecs Powertrain Control ECU.

In theory, all of the abovementioned things should translate into a smooth driving experience under all conditions. Unfortunately, the practice begs to differ. The Focus just doesn’t seem cut out for this kind of performance, urging the driver to be extremely cautious with the gas pedal and the maximum allowed boost.

In the attached video, the hardcore hatchback tries to run the standard 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint on extremely wet asphalt. Capped at just 670 hp (500 kW) and impeded by severe aquaplaning, it nonetheless manages to finish in slightly above six seconds. Here’s hoping Glen improves his monstrous ride in the future.
