Ford has released detailed information concerning the next generation of its Focus ST estate/wagon and hatchback. The company claims it has applied the experience it gained while working on the Mustang, GT, and f-150 Raptor to improve the model.
In their cheapest version, both the five-door hatchback and the estate/wagon will ship with a 2.0-liter diesel engine rated at 190 hp (142 kW). Higher versions will be available with a 2.3-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost engine good for 280 hp (209 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lbĂ—ft) of torque. All versions will initially ship with a six-speed manual transmission, but seven-speed DCT will become an option sometime in the autumn of 2019.
The EcoBoost engine comes with an interesting feature meant to reduce turbo lag. Whenever the driver releases the gas pedal, the throttle valve remains open for a few more seconds, enabling faster torque gain at lower RPM counts.
The hatchback variant of the Ford Focus ST sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.7 seconds, just like the 320-hp (239-kW) Honda Civic Type R.
For the first time in the history of the ST, all trim versions come equipped with an electronic front differential.
