This Focus has a five-liter Mustang V8 under the hood, rides on custom suspension, and features a rear-wheel drive system. With around 70,000 miles (112,600 km) on the clock, it goes for just over $7,000.
Kugel Komponents pulled off a similar engine swap 18 years ago, bringing its Focus RS8 show car to SEMA along with Ford Racing Performance Parts. The vendor wanted everyone to see that its Cammer V8 crate engine could fit virtually any vehicle, even as mundane as an urban hatchback.
The main difficulty was converting a FWD vehicle into a RWD one. Ford RPP eventually requested assistance from hot rod expert Jerry Kugel, who came up with a special suspension kit for the hatchback, including a solid-beam axle at the rear end and adjustable shocks. The swap kit was later added to the FRPP catalog of parts.
This Focus V8 has a similar configuration. It makes use of a modified Ford Mustang Fox-body engine, a redesigned engine bay, and a Tremec five-speed manual transmission sending the momentum to the wheels assisted by a limited-slip rear differential.
Elsewhere, the car sports 17-inch SVT wheels wrapped in Velozza tires, aluminum pedal pads, a short-throw gear stick, and an SVT dashboard. The AC is not functioning.
