Driving his extensively modded Hoonitruck pickup, Ken Block will attempt next Monday, November 18, to set a high score at the Gateway to Heaven, Tianmen Mountain, China.
In a video filmed together with Toyo Tires, the famous racing driver and tuning aficionado explains the details of the upcoming race and mentions that he will be driving a custom car powered by the 3.5-liter engine of the Le Mans-winning Ford GT, rated at 927 PS (914 hp, or 682 kW).
The electric Volkswagen ID.R was proclaimed the new world champion of this raceway in September 2019.
The Tianmen Mountain is a major tourist attraction located in southern China. An arch called the Heaven’s Gate resides at the top of the mountain, but getting there involves climbing almost a thousand steps and then ascending a serpentine road known as the 99 Bends. The local people worship and respect the place, but so do adventurous racing drivers from all over the world.
