Ken Block’s latest drag race video has his Ford Mustang Hoonicorn going up against a carbon-bodied Ford GT – but the forces are far from equal.
The GT approaches the start line in a relatively stock state, with carbon-fiber panels, a titanium exhaust system and lightweight composite wheels being the only features that make it stand apart from the basic production car. It weighs in at 1,360 kilos (3,000 lbs) and relies on a 3.5-liter V6 turbocharged to 655 PS (646 hp / 482 kW) for acceleration. The transmission is seven-speed DCT.
For its part, the Hoonicorn packs a 6.7-liter V8 TT measured at 1,420 PS (1,400 hp / 1,044 kW) and uses a sequential gearbox. It weighs about the same as the Ford GT while packing more than twice its engine power.
