The launch of the Ford GT coincided with the company celebrating its 100th birthday, and out of the promised 4,500 production units, only 4,038 rolled off the lines in 2003–2006. You may consider buying this example for your collection, but make sure you know its limitations.
The car has a chassis number 00004 and was the first to roll out of the factory. Ford used it as a prototype car for certification and emission testing purposes. It has covered mere 1,950 kilometers (1,212 miles) in 217 total hours of use, but its condition is a far cry from perfect. Among other things, the cabin is missing many features, some parts are scraped, and many sensors are still present outside and inside.
However, the main caveat comes in the form of a top speed electronically limited at 8 km/h (5 mph). The car still packs a regular 5.4-liter V8 boosted to 557 PS (549 hp / 410 kW). Normally, it would be capable of launching it 0-60 km/h (0-97 km/h) in 3.6 seconds and then all the way to 330 km/h (205 mph). With the limiter in place, however, this may never be the case.
On the upside, the unique ride bears numerous autographs of its large development team, including Carroll Shelby himself. This seems to be the main reason why the current top bid amounts to $200,000 USD with some auction time still remaining.
