A 52-year-old Ford GT40 – the last first-generation example to have left the factory – will go under the hammer in the USA next month.
The car rocks a tender light blue body with white accents, making it look like a racer, and is in pristine condition. Its owner had kept it in a garage and conducted a thorough restoration not long ago.
The GT40 series came powered by V8 engines with 4.2, 4.7 and 7 liters of displacement; it is uncertain which one sits under the hood here.
Only 105 GT40 units were produced in 1962–1969, and you can watch the video to get a closer look at another similar example. The racecar version won the Le-Mans race four times and became the second production car in history, along with a Ferrari, to have scored two or more racing victories on the same physical chassis.
Seventeen years ago, the automaker came up with a new GT model, which was partly inspired by the original GT40.
