Ford has unveiled the first photos of the GT Alan Mann Heritage Edition, a one-off project commemorating the Alan Mann Racing Team that prepped Ford racecars for track use back in the sixties.
The vehicle is being designed a part of Heritage Edition series. Alan Mann and company used to tweak GT40 racers for Le Mans, for instance, replacing OEM bodywork with lighter parts. In the end, however, it was Shelby that built the GT40 MkII that ultimately won the 24 Hours of La Mans 55 years ago. Still, Alan Mann had its place in history, and Ford felt like appreciating the fact.
Based on the photos, the unique supercar will be finished in gold, white and red – the standard colors of the team. The number 16 seen on the pics references the very first prototype built in 1966 (watch the video for that one). It is unknown whether some weight reduction is planned or not.
It should be noted that the original prototype racer crops up on sale from time to time. It hit the auction block at the Monterey Car Week this year as well, but the deal fell through despite rumors that it could fetch between $7 and $9 million.
