Ford will be bringing a special GT to the Chicago show

Remember the legendary victory Ford held over Ferrari at the 1966 Le Mans race? It did not come easy, as the engineers had to modify their GT40 prototype year after year in order to claim championship. One of the intermediate iterations of the car was the AM GT-1 built by Alan Mann Racing. For this year’s Chicago Auto Show, Ford will be exhibiting a modern GT racer styled after that prototype.

The car is finished in red with white and gold graphics and the number 16 on the sides and the hood – the original AM GT-1 wore the same number. There is also a carbon fiber body kit including a splitter, side mirror housings, a rear diffuser and side sills.

The cabin trim stays stock except for red and gold accents in the stitching, paddle shifters, headrests and dash panel inserts.

The photo gallery released by Ford shows the modern GT alongside with the AM GT-1.
