Ford offers the Kuga SUV in two electrified variants: a 2.0-liter TDI rated at 150 hp plus a 48V starter, and a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine paired with an electric motor in a 225-hp PHEV system. The new spec slots in between the two.
The newly revealed Ford Kuga Hybrid inherits the gasoline engine, the electric motor and the electro-mechanical CVT box from the PHEV spec mentioned above, but dials the performance down to 190 hp. It also trades the 14.4-kWh battery for a small 1.1-kWh one that you cannot charge from a wall socket.
This mild-hybrid spec ships with an AWD system, and FWD is expected to follow up later. Getting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 9.1 seconds as long as the battery is charged up and ready to assist the main motor. The fuel tank holds up to 54 liters of gas, and the driving range is estimated at 1,000 kilometers (620 miles).
The Ford Kuga Hybrid starts from €37,000 in Germany. The diesel-powered Kuga EcoBlue MHEV begins from €32,000, and the Kuga PHEV from €40,000.
