Ford Mustang Mach-E might get a Shelby variant later

Ed Krenz, Chief Engineer of Ford Performance, let it slip that a Shelby-badged Mustang Mach-E is a possibility he cannot exclude. The misleadingly named electric SUV debuted a few days ago.

In its GT version, the EV actually looks fit enough to warrant calling it a sports car, but the company reportedly considers pushing things a bit further still. To do this, the engineering department will first have to figure out how to prevent the drivetrain from overheating during prolonged driving at higher speeds accentuated by rapid recharging. This is vital for the Mach-E to be able to participate in several upcoming EV racing events.

Ford does not have an official comment about this rumored Mustang Shelby Mach-E. The company has said recently that its performance car lineup is quite well-stocked as is, and things would become even more interesting with the launch of the new Shelby GT500 Coupe.
