Ford CEO Jim Farly has made a statement saying the company will strive to make its electric models relatively affordable, keeping prices under $100,000 USD at all times.
More specifically, prices of all electric Fords are expected to lie in the $20,000 - $70,000 range. For instance, the new SUV Mustang Mach-E starts from $42,895 before options or $58,300 in the First Edition guise. As such, the company has no intention to compete with the more premium-inclined Mercedes-Benz and Porsche cars, as well as the pricier Tesla models.
Nature-friendly light passenger cars aren’t the only market segment the Blue Oval is interested in: on the contrary, the company says it will pay the most attention to electrifying its commercial vehicle lineup. The E-Transit is slated to debut later this month, followed by the F-150 EV a while later. If Ford manages to keep its price under $70,000, it would be a welcome alternative to the much more expensive GMC Hummer EV revealed several days ago. For those who missed the specifics, General Motors plans to start production of the entry-level/single-motor Hummer EV in four years’ time and ask $80,000 and more for it.
