New Ford Mustang Mach-E runs surprisingly fast in new GT Performance Edition

Ford has unveiled the fastest-going Mustang Mach-E: the GT Performance Edition.

Speaking at a presentation event last year, company representatives said the Mustang Mach-E GT would be the fastest SUV in the range with its dual electric motors, 465 PS (459 hp / 342 kW) and 0-60 mph sprint in 3.5 seconds. The concept has changed since then, and although the GT model now packs 486 PS (479 hp / 357 kW), it still needs 3.8 seconds to hit 60 mph (97 km/h). The Performance Edition package addresses this issue by further improving the powertrain and reducing the launch time to the previously promised 3.5 s.

The power stays the same in the new spec, but the torque goes up from 813 to 860 Nm (600 – 634 lb-ft, respectively). The 98.8-kWh battery also stays in place, but the driving range drops from 402 to just 378 kilometers (from 250 to 235 miles).

On the outside, the top spec flaunts a blacked-out front grille, bi-color 20-inch wheels and Brembo brakes with red calipers. Grey sports seats and aluminum details can be found inside.

Prices remain unannounced. Pre-orders will open next spring, and the first SUVs will ship in late summer.
