Ford continues calling its newest cars old names. The revival of the Bronco has already been announced, and it looks like Maverick might join them soon.
The car manufacturer is currently road-testing a mini-sized SUV unofficially known as the ‘Baby Bronco’. The car lacks an official name yet, but we could make an educated guess based on the available data. First, Ford registered the trademark ‘Maverick’ in Europe in 2018. Second, an entry named ‘Maverick’ appeared in its parts catalog, allegedly referring to a brand-new car scheduled for 2020 launch.
The last recorded instance of Ford Maverick was essentially the European clone of the Ford Escape SUV. It looks like the North American automobile company wants to bring the latest-gen U.S.-spec Escape/Kuga range to Europe under this name. If so, the Europe spec will likely inherit the entire engine range from the Escape Kuga, which currently consists of gasoline turbo engines with 1.5 and 2.0 liters of displacement.
Rumor has it that the new Maverick will boast some advanced off-road features, such as a more efficient transmission. Whether any of this is true will likely be revealed in the coming months.
