Ford Maverick debuts as an affordable hybrid

Ford stays true to its previously declared intention to minimize light passenger car lineup in the USA in favor of SUVs and trucks. Meet the Maverick, a very compact and wallet-friendly pickup.

The model uses the Bronco Sport chassis and comes with a two-row, five-seat cabin as the only option. The truck bed spans 1,380 mm (4.5 feet) long, which suggests that the Maverick is a direct rival of the Hyundai Santa Cruz.

The entry-level specification is FWD hybrid. A 2.5-liter engine hits a CVT with 194 PS (191 hp / 143 kW). Alternatively, you can go for a 2.0-liter turbo four-pot rated at 254 PS (250 hp / 187 kW) mated to an eight-range A/T and AWD (optional).

Customers can choose from three trim levels dubbed the XL, XLT, and Lariat. The first one offers an eight-inch multimedia display, a 4.2-inch digital dashboard, a 4G LTŠ• model with Wi-Fi support, and a number of electronic assists. Paying extra unlocks a larger dash panel, cruise control, imitation leather interior, and even more assists.

Prices start as low as U.S. $19,995.
