Ford reports 100,000+ Maverick pre-sales

Ford CEO Jim Farly has posted a tweet suggesting rather impressive pre-sale interest in the Maverick pickup truck. Since the orders started in early summer, the company has amassed over 100,000 of them – mostly from California, Florida and Texas.

The Maverick is the most compact truck on the manufacturer’s lineup and its first production pickup to go hybrid by default. The entry-level specification produces 194 PS (191 hp / 143 kW) and 210 Nm (155 lb-ft) of torque. Its fuel economy is comparable to that of the Honda Civic at just 5.8 liters of gasoline per 100 km (40 MPG).

The sub-20,000USD starting price and vast array of options also boost the popularity of the Maverick. Aside from the three states mentioned above, the company received plenty of orders from residents of large cities such as San Francisco and Los Angeles.

When the Maverick comes to the showrooms, it will have to compete with the new Hyundai Santa Cruz, which comes with a duo of 2.5-liter gasoline engines. In its naturally aspirated variant, it produces 193 PS (190 hp / 142 kW), while the turbo version commands 280 PS (276 hp / 206 kW). At $23,990 and above, however, the Korean pickup is considerably more expensive.
